Title :                   ''My home my sanctuary''  2017

Duration:             3.14 min

This project is inspired by the immigration issue. Many refugees are trying to reach Greek shores almost every day, while many of them have died or have gone missing in their effort for a better life. The need for habitation and safety is the inalienable right of every person.

In this work I worked on photographs that belonged to my grandmother's sister, who was a refugee from Asia Minor. These photos are integrated with other images and video.

The video weaves family images with images of loss, combining the personal memory with the social-political issues, the past with the present.

Smyrna burning, bombed Syria, the restriction as opposed to the security of the house. A family celebration, a wedding, a child, moments lost in the sea.

The sea becomes both a symbol of great hope and loss while Costantine Kavafy’ s poem “In the Same Space” in the beginning of the work represents the relationship of with his home

“I created you while I was happy, while I was sad,
with so many incidents, so many details.

And, for me, the whole of you is transformed into feeling.”

Title : ''School Class''  2016

Duration: 1,17 min

This project is inspired by the immigration issue. Many refugees are trying to reach Greek shores almost every day, while many of them have died or have gone missing in their effort for a better life.

This short work of video art introduces a stormy sea.

An old class photograph of grade school children slowly emerges and gradually fades, leaving us once again with the image of the threatening water. The sea becomes both a symbol of great hope and loss.

This class photograph was found in my grandmother's sister belongings. She was a refugee from Asia Minor who eventually settled into her new home in Athens, Greece.

I edited the old photograph to include in the backdrop life-jackets that have been accumulated on a Greek shore, as a reference to the refugee crisis we are experiencing today.

Title : ''Body without a soul''  2016

Duration: 0,53 min

A photograph was the reason for me to create this video, the woman in the picture is my grandmother's sister.

A photo of her from 1940. On the back of the photo someone had written "Body without a soul"

Her life, like the lives of other women, made me think that many times dreams do not come true.

Title :  '''Reflections''  2017

Duration:   33.25 min

The work was made for the exhibition o Xenos / A "Senior Citizen". An exhibition focused on the elderly; a socially vulnerable group that remains silently forgotten. As part of the exhibition, 12 artists including myself were invited to visit a group of elderly people from the Athens Nursing Home. Our projects were inspired by our conversations and interacting with them.

My inspiration was an old woman siting on the balcony. I identified with her, my photograph her photograph, thinking the meaning of time.
